The Second European Finite Element Fair

June 4 till June 5, 2004 in Berlin, Germany

The 2. European Finite Element Fair was attended by 67 participants. Two invited speakers from outside Europe opened each of the two days. Their talks were followed by a succession of 17-minute talks whose order was randomly chosen. The 34 speakers at the Fair came from various European universities in the UK, Germany, Greece, France, Finland, Italy, the Czech Republic, the US, and South Africa.

The numerous fruitful discussions throughout the Fair clearly illustrated the interest and high competence of the audiences in various aspects of finite element methods. The topics covered in the Fair included DGFEM, hp-FEM, H-matrices, mixed, conforming, nonconforming FEMs and adaptive versions of all these. The meeting had a friendly and informal character.

The participants and the organizers are grateful to the DFG Research Centre and to GAMM for the financial assistance toward the travel and subsistence of some of the speakers.
