Tips and Tricks for Linux
provided by Dr. Hella Rabus

This section shows you some nice tips and tricks when working with linux. If you are working with Windows (e.g. from home), there too are some nice tips for remote working with your math account.

Access Control Lists (Configure Access Rights)

What about Homeoffice? (Remote Connect to your Math Account)

It is possible to access your math account from any computer with an internet connection. All you need is user name and password for your math account and (probably) this guide. The servers you can connect to are

ssh.mathematik.hu-berlin.de
ssh1.mathematik.hu-berlin.de
ssh2.mathematik.hu-berlin.de

and you connect to these servers by typing e.g.

ssh userName@ssh.mathematik.hu-berlin.de

into your terminal. You will be asked to enter you password and after doing so, you are prompted to the home directory of your math account. Note that upon entering your password, no output will be displayed in your terminal.

If you want to connect via a Windows OS or want to copy files to or from your math account, read this guide .
